Zimbabwe at 31
A few weeks ago I was provoked but in a good way for a change. Not so much in a way that has caused some of my previous rants. I was challenged to think beyond the normal realms. To think of solutions a leader of a country should think of. I didn't have time to prepare. I had seconds to gather my thoughts, opinions and principles. The question was where can we go from here? we as in Zimbabwe, we as in Africa. It came back to me now because of the Independence we celebrated this week.
Not that many people can truly stop me for a conversation that spans for 2 hours at a time with so many deadlines looming, Yet a colleague managed to keep hold of me for an hour and a half. That whole time I was standing. Not once did I think of sitting down nor did pain reach my legs and remind me to move on with my hectic day. We engaged in conversation about what Africa is to me.
To me Africa is the land of beginnings. It is the land of opportunities when all other land runs dry. The question is why do we continue to ship out all our priced assets. Diamonds, gold, oil and people are priced assets. We sell them off in near raw form. Someone else adds an ingredient and changes it to triple its worth. Every country has a capability of some sort. Why do we not ship our products in and around our continent; processing and improving them. Why have we not established a sense of African pride and unity? Is it the leaders at the top that have created empires within governments and use those to keep us at bay. The ordinary person has nothing to say. One of the best examples is that of oil. A large amount of oil is extracted from African countries but there are few processing plants over the continent. The capital is certainly there because tycoons have been born out of this oil and African tycoons of that matter. Is it greed that makes someone take the profits to better his life and leave the rest of the population looking up to him with envy. Creating jobs is clearly not in the back of the minds of many of our entrepreneurs. We are creating an environment for selfish acts that become part of a an extended cycle.
It is time that we move away from industrialized economies. Many countries including Zimbabwe are purely dependent on production of tangible goods. Yet theres so much potential in services. The African movie industry is excelling right now. If it was not for our diverse language and accents there would be greater success. One thing we do well in the African continent is the arts. We are a collectively creative people that is why the sculptures from there sell so well yet they are made with old techniques. I am doing my part to support some of the promising talent so that we can stamp our image on the global scene. What I have learned in my travels across the world is the person that can tell your story best is yourself. After that people take it as it is and spread it to everyone else. Given that you don't screw it up. That is something America has done well. It has sold its image so well that everyone wants it.We need to make arts our the center of our focus. It will be a new avenue of revenue. Look at how the blacks in America have been empowered with the success of R&B as well as hip-hop. It's just unfortunate that the country has a poor social structure that lets them down. That is why few make it out of the poverty. Our arts are one of the ways we can take so many out of poverty.
In my search for success I came across a man that has potentially changed my views on life that little bit towards positivity. I met him at the Atlantic Youth Entrepreneurship Summit in Nova Scotia, Canada. The dude is pretty legit and i was impressed by the way he thinks with a decent mind. He is not the savior but he is there to help. The entrepreneur I met owns Oliberte shoe company which makes premium brand shoes sold worldwide. It manufactures out of Africa and he ensures that all the factories that he purchases from maintain quality work environments similar to Western countries. For those that don't know him, his name is Tal Dehtiar. He even featured on CNN for his good work to promote Africa as a destination of production. He stands by the philosophy that support should should not only be cash but include infrastructure, industries and contracts because that will fuel economic growth. there's certainly not enough people of our own doing it. The continent so we are obviously not intellectually inferior. Sharing wealth is a thing we have to fight for. It is only a coward that can sit on a high throne and watch his brothers suffer.
We can certainly work set up global centers besides South Africa in the same way that Hong Kong did.
lets stamp made in africa on everything the same way china does. lets beat the rest of the world at what they do best because a lot of it comes from Africa. We have learned from the rest of the world so there is nothing wrong with pulling off a jesse james. lets not just look for aid, lets create jobs like oliberte is doing. Let us step above the politics and focus on the gains. For as we long as we let the politics dominate talk we will remain in the same place. A friend once said why does Kenya get so much aid but yet they have not yet caught up with the rest of the world. It is because the money goes in feeding people and paying administration costs of workers. Basically keeping people alive but hardly taking them out of difficulties. On top of what the Government will be doing wrong. Just a bad mess.
Steps to change
1. lets stop this selfish nonsense that we have been doing since all our countries attained independence.
2. Our people are not intellectually inferior that they cannot be trusted with growing economies when they have skills to do so
3. What are we fighting for anyway? I dont see us going anywhere with it. All we are doing is eliminating ourselves from the face of this earth for someone else to come seize what we leave behind. Stop the fighting and at least try
4. We complain that we are treated as an inferior continent when we behave like one. If a person kills people, is he not a murderer? i.e if we continue to do backward things we will stay backward
One may ask where is this going. Well, think of it as a challenge to out do yourself. I don't see the point of us leaving our countries to go learn. We pay high tuition which is used to subsidize the tuition for locals at the cost of parents sweat. After graduation we go back and fit in into a system that's been running for decades. We don't make an effort to change the situation, we become like the people that were there already there. If that is the case, what was the point of boarding that plane in the first place. It is cheaper to go to a local university or one in South Africa. Let us use the same brains that we reason with away from home to reason at home. That is where the change takes place. All our reasoning away from home only amounts to other countries gaining from our creative processes. I have pledged to return to my country as soon as I am done with my studies. Through my return I will part take in entrepreneurial projects to help the people of my country. It is not only through politics that we can help others. If you look around the world, governments let down their people even in the so called world powers. Its time for the people of the nation to help each other.
Zimbabwe, and the continent stand better today they it did a few years ago but there is still a lot that has to be done. Let's help each other in our conquests.
Too many colors on my page? Sorry! i'm by proud of my national colors. Don't forget them, they will make sense one day!

Introducing Drissy Parker
#ZimAppreciationWeek
This goes out to my Zimbabwean fam looking to make a living from the creative arts. I dedicated this week to those people because you can never have too much publicity. I'm loving the new sounds that upcoming artists are making. The quality of production is impressive backed up by lyrically dynamic writing. To kick off my appreciation of Zimbabwe, I did promo for this upcoming artist. We went to high school together and back then that's when he was sharpening the daggers so that he could slay some MC's today. Not many people saw it and like most artists he had to dig deep to prove himself before any doors opened up for him He is a humble guy so ladies keep one eye on him because you know what happens when a career blows up. Lets find out more about him.
Born in London to a Zimbabwean mother and Nigerian father, Drissy Parker is a 22 year old MC/Songwriter who has spent most of his life in London & most memorably Harare. "Moving to Zimbabwe was a major shock factor but that soon faded and I soon blended into my roots pretty swiftly."
Developing a support base online most notably Twitter, his long awaited release Never On Schedule looks set to be one of the most talked about mixtapes of the year. Drissy aims to make music that listeners can feel and relate to as well as make Zimbabwe and the rest of the continent proud. "I hope this mixtape helps Zimbabweans around the world realise that our music is powerful and that we are gifted and its only a matter of time till the world see the lights shine."
I suggest you sample some of the tracks off the Never on Schedule mixtape. The Kush Freestyle has received great reception among listeners worldwide. You can download that from his sound cloud account http://soundcloud.com/drissyparker . There was a setback on the release date of the mixtape but you can follow Drissy Parker's journey on http://twitter.com/DrissyParker or like his fan page at http://facebook.com/drissyparker
to get more info on release dates.
I'm excited to see where the music scene is heading but it can only be done by supporting talent. Personally I feel that upcoming music is creatively superior to mainstream especially in the Hip-hop industry. Its refreshing to hear something different. If you are tired of the same sounds from lyrically constipated artists like Soulja Boy, look out for the other artists I will be posting on this week.

One Question......................
Short and Sweet.
What do you live for everyday?
Think about that for today. What makes you jump out of your bed everyday? What keeps you motivated? Are you still working towards your goals? Has direction changed? if so, is it better?
Just tryna make sense of this thing called life. Regardless of religious beliefs, we all have a calling

Love Revolution
This is a post of a different kind, We are in a time of revolutions. Some may call it the beginning to the end of the world based on revelations from the Holy Bible. Some may say its a time that there is a power shift as developing countries become more advanced. And it has also been said that it is a revolution sponsored by western powers. I do not advocate violence of any sort and i hope the countries involved can recover and move on to enjoy their achievements.
For the rest of us that are not part of a revolution and you feel like you are not doing anything to change this world then i ask that you consider my suggestions. This goes out mainly to people from Zimbabwe and those of African descent but people from other places can take up the initiative as well. A lot of people i know from Zimbabwe are blessed in their lives. They never have to worry about getting basic necessities. On the other hand everyday we drive past people who are not close to that. People that worry about getting one meal a day yet we never think of them. Lets put together some of our resources to help people where we come from. Lets start a Love Revolution where we give back to our people.
Money donations, food and clothes are some of the things we can give back to people who need it more. It does not have to be the biggest contribution. We are not all Bill Gates but regular small amounts from many people make a difference. Many children's homes, seniors homes and other types of homes in Africa do not get enough funding. They cannot depend on foreign help only. If we can all give something and change at least one person's life then we can inspire millions if not more.
I will be starting my initiative for Harare Children's Home. I have pledged to collect clothes that people do not wear and to take them home with me. I will also give food donations from the farm owned by my parents. All this was provoked by a great friend of mine. Her dad served the country until the day he left us. In a way I owe it to people like him because i wouldn't have some of these opportunities if he had not fought for our independence.
All those people that i have appealed to i hope you will take the next step.

Africa's children listen to the voice of the soil
North to South, East to West the children have let their birth place down. It's actually nice to see people stand up for their rights after years of injustice. The people of Egypt and Tunisia have stood out from their troubles to speak out against leaders that take advantage of those without a voice. Mubarak must move on please. Move away. Let the people breathe. 80 million people need their country back.
I hope the rest of the continent catches on to this trend. Unfortunately, for change to be achieved some lives will be lost but this is for the better of the greater. All of us young Africans taking in knowledge from our studies must not become products of our oppression. Lets become changers and eliminators of the oppression because the next generation walking into classrooms should have better opportunities than we were given. We give too many excuses about why we are where we are. Colonization has passed and we have had plenty of time to turn the leaf over.
It's the innocent that suffer but look on high for hope. Their brothers look on watching the suffering or turn a blind eye to the situation. For all the people that have died and have been injured in Egypt and Tunisia, every child born from now you have managed to change his or her life. They could never thank you enough for your courage. Everyday we must turn back and ask ourselves what did I do today that will make tomorrow a better place. If we don't then what are we living for.
No matter how different a man may be there is nothing that places one man over the other. Money, social status and preference are all human creations that we use to discriminate yet we are not creators of this world. Killings in Uganda are shameful, inhumane and outright ignorant. If you are a man of the bible then live by it. The Holy Bible does not justify killing. We pray for a better day tomorrow.
My heart still hurts for Africa

Ladies but why...............................
Im up late on facebook and I see something that triggers a thought. I think its about time ladies start accepting some of their decisions about men are appauling. WTF i mean come on. its not even the guy only to blame. What were you thinking? flexxxpression here we go!
The funny thing is that sometimes it's the ones that want to be gangsta about the decisions they make in terms of relationships. I will never let a guy hurt me blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah. I've seen my friends get hurt and I'm not that stupid. YEAH RIGHT! stick that on your forehead. There are high chances that someone reading this post is in a messed up situation and they will keep blaming the guy. You made a bad decision and accept it. Get out before it gets worse.
When you are looking at someone, look at them like its an investment. Because if you are going to spend 60% of your free time with this person then you must get something real out of it. If in the 40% that you are not with the person and half of that time is spent stressed. And at the end of the day you break up, all in all you wasted 80% of your free time on something that didn't materialize. You might as well spend that time that time thinking about your life.
Anyway coming back to the story. ladies please use your head not your heart. all these people that say do what your heart tells you dont tell you that your heart doesn't take things literally. I don't like giving relationship advice cause most of the time i think that the person doesn't deserve to be in that situation. I'm not God so I will not tell you to leave that person. all that is up to you but what I will try to do is make you realize that you are paining more than you get pleasure.
Life is not a fairytale. The strong ones move on and the weak ones fall off. Take your time to find the right person. The right guy does not need to go about spraying bullets and hoping that he catches something. The right guy is a sniper and picks out his target carefully. The shot fired is precise and makes the kill that wins the war. No point going around hurting the innocent who go on to hurt more innocent. In the end no one wins. Just a bunch of bitter people blaming each other. Which takes me back to where I started.
The sad thing is my closest friends are also in there situations. Please open your eyes and see..................
Lets start accepting our mistakes and making better decisions
